In 2018, road competition enthusiasts raced for the first time in the Gran Fondo Gdynia competition. The debut edition attracted over 300 cyclists to the start, who had a choice of two charming routes leading through Kashubia. A year later, the attendance number almost quadrupled! The peloton, of cyclists in characteristic jerseys, numbered almost 1,200 people.
The coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to organize the competition in 2020, for which over 1,800 cyclists were already registered. Instead, we managed to meet you virtually twice, during Gran Fondo Gdynia VR.
In 2021, the cycling classic for amateurs returns in a new version, as the Gran Fondo Series, which means that we will be racing not only in Gdynia, but also in Poznań, and in the near future also in other places. One of the greatest advantages of the Gran Fondo Series is the ability to compete on public roads that are closed to traffic during the competition. This makes the participants feel like professional cyclists, but most of all it has a direct impact on the safety of the riders. Random anti-doping tests are also carried out - so everything is like a professional peloton!
The first Gran Fondo Series race will be held on June 27 in Gdynia, on September 12, road bike enthusiasts will have the opportunity to meet in the capital of Wielkopolska - Poznań. In each case, competitors will have three routes to choose from:
- Gran Fondo with a length of 120-140 kilometers
- Medio Fondo - 70-90 km
- Gran Fondo Family - 30-40
We are also preparing a series of short distances for children called Gran Fondo Kids.
In the starting kit, each competitor who is registered for the Gran Fondo or Medio Fondo will receive a professional cycling jersey, a voucher for a meal in one of the local restaurants, a starting number, insurance, and a commemorative medal will be waiting for him at the finish line.
Registration for the Gran Fondo Series competition will start on Monday, April 12, 2021, at 12:00 on the SlotMarket.pl portal.
